A majority of patients do not imagine having an appointment for a root canal. They perceive it as painful and causing discomfort, which may not be the case. Root canal procedures are today almost painless since there is an application of sedation dentistry or numbing agents. Signs of root canal therapy may include:
Pain
The most prominent of the signs of a root canal is pain. When you have persistent pain that likely radiates and feels deep in the bone, it could mean a need for a root canal. The pain may also present in the jaw, face, and other teeth, a situation known as referred pain. Tooth pain may also indicate other problems like gum disease, cavities, broken fillings, or even a sinus infection. Visit a dentist for oral inspection to establish what could be bringing about the pain.
Sensitivity
Another sign is sensitivity. Since decay in the tooth damages the nerves and blood vessels within the tooth, you may begin having dull or sharp pain. The pain occurs when you drink or eat hot or cold things. If you have persistent pain coupled with sensitivity and it does not get normal even after using special toothpaste, you should see a dentist.
Swollen Gums
Infection and decay can contribute to inflammation and pain in the tissue surrounding a tooth. The swelling may come and go, but you should take it seriously. It is possible to notice a small pimple on the gums, referred to as an abscess. This pimple is a pus-filled sac and makes your mouth and breath smell bad.
