Teeth Whitening

Before and after photo of teeth whitening treatmentProfessional whitening, also known as chairside bleaching, can usually be taken care of during just one appointment. Over time, teeth can turn darker due to diet. The enamel can become stained or discolored. Many patients look for whitening alternatives to brighten their teeth because of this. Our professional office staff at DeLuca, Ressel, & Congemi Dental Care can discuss all the teeth whitening alternatives and provide a solution meeting our patient’s needs at our comfortable office.

Teeth Whitening at Our Offices

Most patients who are looking for whitening solutions fail to realize the publicly available store-bought solutions are only temporary, not to mention dangerous to their teeth. The whitening gels are not the same quality as our professional treatment. The whitening solutions used at our offices are longer lasting and much safer for teeth. This provides our patients the brighter smiles they want without the damage and costly procedures to rectify the resulting problems. The whitening solutions used in our process have extra protectants added so that both teeth and gums will not be damaged.

The Difference Between Over the Counter Solutions and Professional Solutions

There is a clear difference between over the counter whitening solutions and those used by our professional staff. We have a higher concentration of bleach in our treatment solution which is much safer than those found in over the counter solutions. The at-home options usually have carbamide peroxide rated content of approximately 10-20%, or the equivalent to 3% hydrogen peroxide, which is the main reason they are only temporary. If warranted, our office staff can recommend 15-40% carbamide peroxide levels.

At our office, we will make a custom-made mouthpiece for the patient’s mouth. This mouthpiece will ensure the solution will be applied evenly across all the teeth. This will allow more even whitening so there will not be any difference in shade or brightness. It also lets our staff limit and control how much of the solution comes into contact with the gums of the patient.

The over the counter whitening options come with mouthpiece trays as well, but they are not custom fit to a specific patient. This is problematic because they are designed in a one size fits all mentality and cannot fit securely. If the mouthpiece is improperly fitted, unintended damage from the whitening solution can happen. The American Dental Association has stated permanent damage to both teeth and surrounding tissues is likely if the whitening solution is misused or overused.

In our office, patients will not have to concern themselves with misusing or overusing the whitening solution or potentially irreparably harming their oral cavity tissues. After an evaluation is completed, our staff will prepare a whitening agent. Easy and pain-free, patients can receive their whitening treatment in a single office visit.

How Long Does Whitening Last?

Teeth whitening systems can last for months before you have to get another treatment. The exact length of time is case-by-case and is dependent on several variables. Some people are more prone to yellow staining due to genetics, as tooth color is often carried through your family.

We can provide whitening solutions to those patients who gaze into the mirror and wish for a brighter smile in a professional environment. There is no reason to have anxiety about damaging teeth by not using the whitening solution properly at home. Leave it to us. Feel free to contact DeLuca, Ressel, & Congemi Dental Care to talk about the whitening treatments. Call (352) 666-9898 or visit our offices in person to get your visit scheduled.
